What fun activity can you do as a couple that is outside of the house?

Q. Not like reading a book, or cooking, or painting. That's boring stuff.

Something fun like rock climbing, joining a shooting range club. Something that we can both do every week that is fun.

Trying to think of stuff its hard though. Do NOT suggest dancing, my boyfriend dances like a worm and I hate dancing with a passion.
We wanna do something fun and exciting!

A. picnic archery sky diving water skiing hangcliding bikes

What is something you can build at home (woodworking) that you can later sell for a decent profit?
Q. I'm a beginner in woodworking, so I'm looking more for something simple, but I am also a quick learner, so if it's a more difficult item that you want to tell me about, that is fine also.

I'm not talking about building decks, buildings or houses by the way. Just stuff you can build in your garage. Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated!

A. picnic tables, birdhouses, mailboxes... Doghouses, coffee table, end table...

What are some unique location ideas for a wedding reception?
Q. Early planning stages for a wedding and want to do something fun for the reception. We're thinking about a picnic or backyard, but we've also considered the children's museum or a bowling alley. Any suggestions?

A. Picnic receptions are fun because there is such a large choice of beautiful inexpensive decorating ideas. Also, you can get really creative with the food choices, and it is more informal. You can decorate with beautiful plants and flowers in planters that you can actually use in/around your home after the wedding instead of wasting all that money on picked flowers.

How do I get big discounts for hotels in Los Angeles area?

Q. We are planning a trip to Los Angeles. We want to stay at Santa Monica, but the hotel prices are way too pricey. We may stay in Los Angeles, not sure yet. Depends on hotels. I hear all of the time that there are ways to get big discounts, but I don't know how to do that.

A. Triple A is usually the common discount if you're a member.

As far as big discounts, if you're a big traveler you might want to look into becoming a Leisure Travel Consultant. You get great LTC rates on hotels, resorts, cruises, rental cars, etc. As well as make commissions from any sales you make.

If you don't like the idea of being an LTC, you could check out becoming a Dreamtrips member. Hands down they offer the best deals on luxury hotels, resorts, and trips i've ever seen. They're pretty unbelievable. I was sold as soon as I looked at what they had to offer and they keep adding more. With Dreamtrips the deals are for you and a guest/spouse and often includes the kids too. Definitely worth looking into.

Hope this helped.

How do you feel about Larry Ellison buying the Hawaiian island of Lanai?
Q. Ellison is the CEO of Oracle and one of the richest men in the world. He recently purchased Hawaii's sixth-largest island, Lanai, for his own private use. It apparently cost him half a billion dollars but he can obviously afford it. Are you good with this sort of thing or does it bother you? Please explain your reasoning.

A. I think it's great! He's a Job Creator, which should be the most revered & protected people in America.

You are not to question the intentions or actions of a Job Creator - doing so is un-American & Socialist.

In fact, I hope Larry Ellison buys the big island of Hawaii, kicks the Natives out, and turns into golf courses, luxury hotels, mining facilities, and training grounds for private military contractors that will protect our Freedom.

What are the smoke lines in atom bomb pictures and videos?
Q. In some videos and pictures of atomic bomb explosions there are these smokes trails ether vertically or horizontally that appear right after the flash. I was just curious asas to they are? Its probably a simple explanation, it just looks odd to me.

A. They are not smoke trails, usually. When the bomb (any bomb) explodes, the first things out are a shock wave. This travells very fast, and the pictures look like they are smoke trails, but they are just distortions in the air.

What is the difference between 4 star and 5 star resorts?

Q. Im a 21 yr old male travelling to varadero Cuba in june. is there a significant difference between a four star resort and a five start resort? Im trying to save cash so would i be missing out if i go with a 4 star resort?

A. This is straight from the Orbitz website:

Here's an idea about what to expect with each star rating:

* 5 Stars - Luxury hotels: Treat yourself well with first-class services and accommodations. The hotel decor usually creates an elegant ambiance from the lobby to each individual guest room or suite. Hotel restaurants are often renown for their famous chefs and delectable dishes and are usually located in the most desirable locations in major cities and resort areas. Other amenities include: valet parking, concierge service, room service, well-equipped fitness centers and state-of-the-art business centers.

* 4 Stars - Deluxe/upscale hotels: Find comfort, class and quality that you can count on. These hotels will usually be in a prime location and other amenities may include: proximity to desirable shopping areas and restaurants, valet parking, concierge service, room service, well-equipped fitness centers and state-of-the-art business centers. These properties may be newly constructed or recently renovated, and offer tasteful decor in each room or suite.

* 3 Stars - Mid-scale hotels: Discover convenience and comfort in the city or in the suburbs where many of these properties are located. Amenities that may be available include: swimming pools, fitness centers, room service, concierge service and parking. Often you'll find these properties located near highways and office complexes. Rooms and lobbies are nicely furnished, and restaurants are usually located at the property.

* 2 Stars - Value Properties: Get back to basics with these comfortable properties that offer affordable prices. These properties are often located near office parks, airports, and shopping and retail areas. Rooms are comfortably decorated but not overly elegant. Usually, these properties do not have restaurants or room service, but offer free parking and sometimes, swimming pools. Transportation is occasionally offered to nearby airports.

* 1 Star - Economy Hotels & Motels: Stay in simple accommodations that typically are located near major highways and transportation. Amenities include free parking, local calls and cable television. Restaurants are often located nearby, and room service is usually not available. Some economy hotels and motels have swimming pools located on the property.

How much will it cost me to travel to Japan and stay for a week?
Q. After graduation, I plan on traveling to Japan with a friend. I was wondering what the individual cost will be.

A. This depends a lot on how thrifty you are, on your choice of accommodation, and how much travel you are planning to do.
Youth hostels range in price from $35 to $85 per night.
Hotels, ryokan(Japanese inns) can be more expensive.
Travel by Shinkansen(bullet train) is very expensive unless you have the 7-day JR Railpass.
You have to purchase an exchange voucher for this pass at an authorized travel agency such as JTB, then exchange this pass in Japan at a Midori No Madoguchi ticket office in Japan. These are located at pretty much every trainstation and major airport. The cost for a 7-day Ordinary pass is 28,700 yen.(about $269 US $)
The pass is good for the NEX train from Narita to Tokyo, all JR subways in Tokyo, all JR buses(except the one from Shin-Osaka to Tokushima because it uses toll bridges), all Shinkansen(except the Nozomi), all local JR trains, as well as the JR ferry to Miyajima.
I don't know what the airfare is from your city, but from Vancouver, Canada the fare was around $800 return.
In addition to that, you should plan on exchanging approx. $600 to Japanese yen. This will be plenty for meals and some souvenirs, and admission fees. Even if you run out of money, you can use your credit or debit card at a bankmachine at any postoffice or CitiBank branch.
Advice: Do NOT rent a cellphone in Japan. My cost for 2 weeks was around $425 CDN.(I needed a cellphone to contact all of my friends).
Here are some sites to help you plan your travel:
www.hyperdia.com train, bus and air plane travel
www.xe.com money exchange rates
www.japanrailpass.com info on Japan Railpass
www.hihostels.com

All in all, $1800 per person would be sufficient if you do not use high-end luxury hotels.
By the way, meals do not cost $50. Food is actually quite cheap, especially the local specialties. Meals range in price from around $8 to $25. Packaged meals sold in 7-11s and AM/PMs are much cheaper, but still of good quality.

What can I replace a shed with underneath a willow tree?

Q. I want to get rid of a 6" x 4" shed that is currently stood on a concrete base, partly underneath a willow tree in my garden. Anyone know what i can put in its place? Maybe stand alone plants or furniture or something? I don't want to get rid of the concrete base.

A. A nice picnic table and maybe some outdoor lounge chairs.
making it a nice family gathering place on nice days.

What is the proper attire for family day; the day before basic training graduation?
Q. My son graduates from bct next month. I have found the answer for proper attire at the graduation itself, but what about family day? The day before graduation, I believe spent on base with your soldier.

A. Think church picnic.

Yes, I would also consider the weather and comfort, but also keep inmind that this is professional. If the OTHER PEOPLE at the picnic would feel comfortable with you wearing that outfit to a church picnic - and it suits the weather - you'll be fine.

And you can just watch the people that show up in tiny micro-dresses and short-shorts, and the dirty looks they get... and the other people in long sleeves and jeans that are dying from the heat... and laugh.

What's a quick, easy, romantic dinner I can make for my boyfriend tonight?
Q. If anyone has any suggestions for something healthy, that would be ideal. I am planning a nice night for our 1 year. I usually make something like chicken and pasta, but I'm looking for something different.

Thanks in advance for your ideas!

A. Have a carpet picnic, spread a blanket on the floor, have some fresh fruit, finger sandwiches, stuff you would have at a picnic and lots of candles....
